Mood Board Monday: Inspired by the Gram
A little weekend catch-up and some takeaways from some of my recent IG saves.
Dear Reader,
Happy Monday. I hope your weekend was a good one filled with all things lovely and wonderful. Ours was a bit on the busy side juggling rainstorms and baseball, watching the Preakness Stakes, and a heavy dose of humidity, heat, and mosquitos. The latter being the key ingredients that contribute to the dreaded unbearable Houston summer weather that has officially knocked on our door. It’s a bit of a sad story (our summer heat that is), so let’s shift towards more pleasant things shall we?
Which I like to think could be today’s mood board that is filled with images I’ve recently saved over on the gram as they organically fueled my feed the past few weeks. Whether they were aesthetically pleasing to my eye, inspiring and motivational, or just plain coveted I felt the urge to click save. And now sharing some of my takeaways from this lovely grid with you.
p.s. I heard this song last night and I love it!! Why have I not heard this artist before?? So good!!
MOOD BOARD
Mood Board image highlights and details in grid order below:
I was initially drawn to the aesthetic of this image: black and white imagery - check, artsy mess - check, creativity in the making alongside photography - check, check! I then quickly fell into a google hole researching the late artist Francesca Woodman in the photo. And wow, what an interesting hole it was! This documentary is a fascinating piece about her and her artistic family. And this imagery archive and tribute by the man behind the photo, George Lange captures some really interesting behind the scenes from his personal creative experiences with Francesca.
“I had never met anyone who could so clearly reveal a refined vision. She could also be a mess. Her place was a mess. Her photo technique, stained. That mess is the texture of her work. She couldn’t control everything, but somehow with her touch, that mess became poetry.” - George Lange
I now feel compelled to continue this deep dive into her art further.
“You will get there. But right now you are here.” This is a great reminder I feel we could all benefit from time to time. This quote also makes me think about the core message behind Eckhart Tolle’s book ‘The Power of Now’:
“People's emotional problems are rooted in their identification with their minds. Your entire life only happens in this moment. The present moment is life itself. Be aware of the present moment instead of losing oneself in worry and anxiety about the past or future.” - The Power of Now
Flowers always!
I think this statement is so important! As a child I was fascinated with learning what my parents world was like for them growing up. I remember very vividly studying my parents high school yearbooks and photo albums. I feel it was pivotal in helping me see my parents as not just authoritative figures, but as actual people themselves that had their own life experiences that then formed their paths towards the life they made with me.
A lovely summer white combo!
I’m loving the lace designs trending at the moment. The Sea New York collection has some beautiful options. I’m also loving this more affordable option.
Simplicity at its finest. And I gotta say the no pant look with an oversized t-shirt is kinda growing on me if I’m being on honest.
Stacked books and stacked gallery walls are pure eye candy to me. Love it!!
Yes, I know...Mosquito Studios big beaded necklaces have made yet another appearance on my mood board. I find them sooo beautiful. I am also loving this lovely alternative as well. I think I might have to get one.
Megan Perry Fisher is a beautifully talented pianist I discovered on IG a few years ago and have been following her work ever since. She came out with her debut album this past winter that I quickly purchased on viynl for myself. Her collection of music and videos are stunning. I highly recommend!
Everything about this outfit! I would wear it everyday. LOVE!
I love Stylepines imagery editing style! Very film aesthetically driven, but not overly done.
I’m instantly calm when I view this image. If it calms you too...there is more where that came from here.
Now isn’t this just the prettiest poetry edition by Emily Dickenson! Poetry is something I haven’t explored too deeply, but becoming more and more attracted to the idea of doing just that. I enjoyed ‘The Sun and Her Flowers’ by Rupi Kaur a few years ago and hope to read the ‘No Matter the Wreckage’ collection by Saraj Kay this summer. Do you have any poetry favorites? Please share in the comments.
I couldn’t agree more with Mr. Cillian Murphy and it just might be my motto! The life that comes at us is complex enough all on its own. Why not keep our baseline simple and sweet.
Thank you so much for reading. May you have the most amazing week ahead. Until next time.
Love,
