Dear Reader,
I hope your weekend was a lovely one in whatever circumstance your Mother’s Day fell under.
Mother’s Day with my children was wonderful and I feel incredibly blessed. They showered me with conversation, lovely gifts, a wonderful meal, and then we wrapped it up snuggling on the couch watching the movie “Divergent” together. I couldn’t be more fulfilled and thankful. And later this week the celebration of motherhood continues when my sister and I celebrate our own mother over a nice dinner out.
I often find creating posts, tributes, or coverage online centered around holidays a bit overwhelming. There is just so much emotion that can surround such celebratory or solemn events that can affect people in so many different ways. It almost feels too delicate or cautionary territory to tread on. However on the other hand there have been some beautiful words and stories shared by others from very personal places that I have been so deeply moved and impacted by.
Motherhood is so complex! And I personally can’t even begin to describe the privilege, responsibility, expectations, complications and challenges, special bonds, and amazing blessings that come with the role of a Mother. But there is a line in the 2019 film “Judy” that has stuck with me and I agree to be very true about what motherhood does actually feel like a lot of the time. In the film the line was spoken by the late Judy Garland during her final days as a struggling soul, performer, and mother just trying to do everything she could to just be with her children:
“Having kids is like living with your heart outside your body.”
- Judy Garland in the film “Judy” 2019
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you have a great week ahead.
