Meet Mr. Blue...a sweet and very persistent little male Eastern Bluebird (I believe) who for the last month has graced us with his presence every day with repeated banging on our home windows. While I’m not sure he is the same blue ‘banging bird’ that paid us visits this time last year I do like to think he is.
Eventually after days of banging I turned to google to find out “why is this bird repeatedly banging on my window?”. Well it turns out birds banging on windows is indeed an actual thing.
According to google, commonly around spring time male birds are establishing and defending their territory. So when they inadvertently see their reflection in the window they perceive it to be a rival, therefore attack the window in efforts to get the rival to leave. Makes sense to me!
I often see Mrs. Blue off in the background overseeing her man fighting off possible enemies so perhaps their little bluebird babies will be in my midst some time soon. Unfortunately Mrs. Blue is the shy one of the partnership so her photograph has been impossible...so far.
Birds have often been referred to as the Divine Messengers or even the original posting service. We may be familiar with the dove in the Bible delivering back to Noah an olive branch symbolizing life after The Great Flood. Or ‘The Owl Post’ from Wizarding World delivering messages to Harry Potter about a way out towards his true purpose. And pigeons utilized prior to the telegraph to deliver important messages all around the world. Birds and their unique purposes and symbolism has been observed, received, and appreciated by various cultures for centuries.
As a bird watcher myself over the years I have no doubt these beautiful and fascinating creatures have a message for those amongst their presence. All we have to do is stop what we are doing, pay attention, and receive what they have to tell us.
A Message from the Bluebird:
“Bluebirds are often known as the “bluebirds of happiness”, meaning they are generally associated with the concepts of joy, happiness, and harmony. The bluebird is a symbol of hope, love, positivity, and renewal. It symbolizes the essence of life and beauty.”

I feel honored Mr. Blue has chosen our yard (perhaps even for the second year in a row) to claim territory for his family during the upcoming spring season. I look forward to anything else he has to say during his stay.
Thank you so much for reading. Until next time. xo
